Whiteville to Charleston Day 1

Well...we finally got on the road! After nearly a year of planning we finally started pedaling our bicycles. My friend Doug left Whiteville for a 5 day/4 night bicycle ride to Charleston, SC.
Today was  short trip...only 22 miles. A short first day was intentional...gives you a chance to get your legs moving without overdoing things.  It gives you a chance to see what happens with your gear when you hit a good bump...things have a tendency to settlein places you had not intended.

It was a good day on the bikes. That means no rain and no real problems. We rode at a leisurely pace. The canals around Lake Waccamaw were amazingly beautiful today...though at our rest stop at the boat ramp the wind was blowing pretty good.
We are camped at Lake Waccamaw State Park. I think the best site is right on the water...but we optedfor convenience! Once we got camp set up it was time for some food, a little relaxation, and then early to bed...we have a big day tomorrow.

Oh,my inflatable pillow? Yea...it no longer holds air! 🥴
